Wednesday. Friday. Saturday. We sold things.
Sunday we gave the rest away.
Monday was donation runs and dump runs.
And today is Tuesday… and our house is empty.
We still have one more storage run with the electric bikes and the kayaks. And right before we leave the furniture goes in. But other than that… we are done.
This weekend was honestly so fun. We met so many incredible neighbors and community members at the sale. We had a few people come back and show us pictures of their family and kids enjoying our “goods” Everyone asked about our moving sale and we loved telling them about our plans.
Which… we do not really have. 😄
Here is where we are at honestly. I do not know what we are doing and it does not bother me one single iota.
I have been deep in research mode trying to figure out the best way to start this trip. Poppy adds a layer of complexity we would not have otherwise… and plane tickets are going up up up.
The best option I have found so far is US to Ireland on Delta. There is an RV we can rent to drive around for a week for about $1200 which would be a pretty incredible start… except they drive on the other side of the road… and we need wifi for Adam and me to work.
Then a ferry to Wales. Rent a car. Spend a few weeks in the UK. Fly to Norway and pick up our car.
OR… do we fly straight to Norway and start from there.
Here is the thing nobody tells you about traveling to Europe with a dog. Poppy cannot enter the UK on an airplane. They only allow pets as cargo and that is not happening. So we have to take a ferry or a car ferry into the UK. She also needs a tapeworm test within 10 days of entering the UK.
So… no plan yet. And I cannot buy plane tickets anyway until we have a close date on the house.
But honestly… the best part of all of this is that I am not stressed. Not even a little. We will figure it out. We always do.
I am genuinely open to your ideas though… drop them in the comments. Where should we start? 🌍🐾

Q: Can you fly with a dog to the UK? A: Not in cabin — the UK only allows pets to enter as cargo on flights which is not something we are willing to do with Poppy. The only options for bringing a dog into the UK are by ferry or by car through the Channel Tunnel. She also requires a tapeworm treatment from a vet within 10 days of arrival so the timing has to be planned carefully.
Q: What is the best way to start a long term Europe trip with a dog? A: We are still figuring this out! Our current best option is flying to Ireland first where pets are more accessible by air and then taking a ferry to Wales to enter the UK. From there we would drive through the UK before heading to mainland Europe. If you have done this with a pet we genuinely want to hear from you in the comments.
Q: How much does it cost to rent an RV in Ireland? A: We found an option for approximately $1200 for a week which is surprisingly reasonable for a family of five plus a dog. The main considerations beyond cost are that Ireland drives on the left side of the road and reliable wifi for remote work is essential. Still exploring this one!
Q: How do you travel to Europe with a dog from the US? A: The logistics are more involved than most people realize. Your dog needs to be microchipped… have a valid rabies vaccination… have an EU health certificate issued by an accredited vet… and meet the specific entry requirements of each country you plan to visit. The UK has additional requirements including a tapeworm treatment timed within 10 days of arrival. Start the paperwork early — very early.
Q: How do you handle not having a solid travel plan? A: Apparently better than expected! We have no confirmed itinerary… no plane tickets… and no close date on the house yet. And somehow that feels completely fine. We have done enough of this to know it always comes together. The flexibility is actually the whole point.

Hahaha. I mean I know she would be loved… but we need each other and she too needs to experience the world.
