I have no idea how we got here. I am sitting here in the hotel room, full from a QT Grilled Cheese with bacon and tomato… surrounded by my family and thinking.. holy moly… 4 more sleeps until we are heading on our next adventure.

Friday we had the 5th grade farewell. Saturday we had Volleyball and Soccer and Birthday Parties and the KC Current, and a movie night with Avilene and her friends, we had the Uhaul and removed all the furniture.

This weekend was absolute chaos and so so so busy. Monday night Adam and I were at the Uhaul until almost 11:30 playing jenga with all of our things… then we made a donation drop and attempted to go to bed about 1am… but in true Kansas attitude, the storms were brewing last night and man the thunder shook the house for hours.

We were up bright and early finishing up all the rest of the stuff… because we had so so much stuff.

I cleaned out 15 bags of clothes to give away and donate – please please tell me why and how on earth we end up with so much stuff…. I will save that for another blog, but when we say we can’t afford to travel or this and that about vacations… take a look at the car we bought, or the 40 pairs of socks we own, the 8 pairs of sneakers, the 25 opened bottles of vitamins and lotion that no one ever finishes – the eliptcal we needed – it is a priority thing I think.. not a can’t afford it thing…

Anywhoo… the buyer showed up about 20 minutes early so we ran out of the house and hoped for the best. We are now at a hotel for the rest of the week. I need to go through everything we packed and par down a little more – I personally think we have 1 bag too many.

We have 2 large suitcases, 1 medium, 2 roll ons, 4 backpacks, my purse and Poppys carry on case thing.

I’m so tired.

But our hotel is about 30 minutes from the kids school, we had thought we would be able to negotiate with the buyer to stay in our home until Thursday or Friday and let the kids finish out the year, but that did not go in our favor so now we are running all over creation with them. We have to leave the house around 6:45am to get them to school and Poppy and I to the vet because we still only have one car.

It’s a lot… but we made it. We are at this point where I am like holy moly… here we go.

How do you afford to sell your house and travel the world with three kids? Honestly it is less about what we earn and more about what we stopped spending on. When we were clearing out our house I donated 15 bags of clothes. We found 25 half finished bottles of vitamins. We had 8 pairs of sneakers and an elliptical that no one touched. It is a priority thing. Not a can’t afford it thing.

How much luggage are you bringing for a family of 5? Right now we have 2 large suitcases, 1 medium, 2 roll ons, 4 backpacks, my purse, and Poppy’s carry case. I personally think we have one bag too many. I will report back once we figure out what we actually needed versus what we thought we needed!

What do you do about school when you are in the middle of a move like this? We are doing a 30 minute drive every morning from the hotel to get the kids to school because the timeline did not work out in our favor. It is a lot of running around but we wanted them to finish out the year. Worldschooling officially starts once we land!

Is it too late to travel internationally with your family? Never. We are 5 people, a Cavapoo, more bags than I would like, and we are doing it anyway. Exhausted and chaotic and fully convinced this is right. If this has been a dream of yours, let’s actually talk about it.
