Hotels! Get with the kid program

Why is it that all hotels have 3 channels of HBO but not one of Disney Jr or Nick Jr? I would imagine they are paying extra for these movie channels.  All that is available to the kids is cartoon network and nickolodeon which are anything but young kid friendly. It’s violent, mean and a bit scary.  No, our kids don’t want TV all day and yes we entertain them other ways.  But Mom and Dad need a shower and some down time…  So, Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG. .. One piece of advice…invest in a cartoon channel or two.
What makes a hotel actually good for families?

Space. Families need more than a double bed in a standard room. The best family hotels have configurations that give kids their own area. Blackout curtains matter. A mini fridge matters. A pool helps. And staff who are genuinely warm toward children make everything better.

What hotel amenities matter most when traveling with kids?

Breakfast on-site or within walking distance. A pool or outdoor space. Rooms large enough to not feel claustrophobic. Blackout curtains. A mini fridge. And proximity to what you are actually there to do so that getting around is manageable.

Is it better to stay in hotels or vacation rentals with kids?

Vacation rentals usually win for families with young kids because kitchen access, washing machines, and space make daily life easier. Hotels win when you want housekeeping, a pool, and fewer logistics. The best choice depends on trip length and what matters most.

How do you get kids to sleep in hotels?

Bring familiar items from home including a lovey, a blanket, or a white noise machine. Maintain your normal bedtime routine. Blackout curtains help enormously. Expect the first night to be harder than subsequent nights.

How do you find family-friendly hotels?

Read reviews from families specifically rather than just the overall rating. Look for hotels that mention family rooms or suites. Check that breakfast is included or easy to access. A travel advisor who specializes in families will often know which hotels truly deliver.
