What you are looking at

There are two halves to this site. One is places. One is how you go. You can walk in either door and end up in the same spot, which is a trip that actually fits your family.

Most people arrive through a country. They have Italy in their head, or Japan, or a cruise their sister took and would not shut up about. If that is you, start with the places. But if all you really know is that you have two weeks in June and three kids who do not want the same things, start from how instead. That is what the Travel Library is for.

Places

Seven continents. Sixty nine country guides. Thirty city guides and a page for every US state we have spent real time in.

Some of these come from years of living somewhere. Some come from a week. Some come from trips our agency has booked and led for other families, and where that is the case the page says so plainly, because a day ashore on a port call and a month in residence are not the same thing and you should know which one you are reading.

How you go

Eight ways to travel, from ocean cruising down to walking a city on your own two feet. Nine themes if you would rather build the trip around what your family actually loves than around where you point the car. And the tools we use with our own three, because a nine year old with nothing to do at hour six is its own kind of trip planning.

Cruises get their own shelf

Thirty three cruise lines, written up one at a time. Which ships suit which ages. What a cabin really costs once you add in the things nobody puts on the brochure. Who each line is for, and who should quietly book something else.

The honest part

None of this is generated. It is written, and it gets things wrong sometimes, because prices move and ships get refurbished and a route that ran last summer does not always run this one. Anything time sensitive here is worth a quick check with me before you book on it. We run a fact check across the cruise pages every month for exactly that reason. If you find something wrong, tell me and I will fix it that day.
