Milan is the city everyone flies into and drives straight out of, off to Lake Como or Venice. I get it. It has a reputation for being all banks and fashion and not much for kids.
That reputation is wrong.
Milan is one of the easiest big Italian cities to do with children. The center is flat and walkable, the metro is simple, and the one thing every kid wants to climb, the Duomo, is right in the middle of it.
Everybody photographs the front of the cathedral. Fewer families go up on the roof, and that is the part the kids remember. You take a lift or the stairs and come out walking among the marble spires, out in the open, the whole city under you and the Alps on a clear day.
Give it two real days before you run to the lake. Day one is the Duomo and its roof, the Galleria, a wander to Castello Sforzesco and its park, then aperitivo on the Navigli canals. Day two is Brera and something easy. Then take the train an hour to Varenna and spend a day on Lake Como.
I taught social studies for eight years and the Renaissance was the part I could never get through fast enough. Milan sits right in the middle of that story. Leonardo worked here, the Sforza dukes ran it, and you can stand in the rooms where it happened.
The full family guide is here: Milan With Kids. When you are ready to build the trip, work with me and I will pace it for your family.
