Munich is getting a real round of new hotels in 2026, and it’s worth a minute before you default to whichever big name chain shows up first in a search.
The Dean, a boutique hotel group that’s already built a following in a handful of European cities, is opening a Munich property this year alongside new locations in Berlin and Miami. Separately, Bob W, which runs tech enabled serviced apartments rather than traditional hotel rooms, is opening a flagship in Munich’s city center in May 2026.
That second one is actually the more interesting option for families, and here’s why. A serviced apartment style stay means a real kitchen, more square footage, and usually a washer, which matters enormously more to a family of five for a week than it does to a couple on a long weekend. I steer families toward this style of stay in Munich constantly, because a hotel room built for two adults gets cramped fast once you add three kids and everyone’s luggage.
The Dean’s style leans more toward a design forward boutique hotel experience, the kind of property built around a great lobby bar and a striking room design. That’s a wonderful stay for a couple’s weekend in Munich. It’s a much harder sell with three kids who need somewhere to spread out and a bathtub that isn’t a design statement piece.
Here’s my actual advice if either of these is on your radar for next year. Wait for real reviews before booking a brand new property, especially with kids along. A hotel or apartment building that just opened hasn’t worked out its early issues yet, whether that’s a slow front desk, an elevator that isn’t quite reliable, or a restaurant still finding its footing. Six months to a year of operation tends to smooth those things out.
What I would use this news for right now is location. Both of these properties are opening in central Munich, which tells you where the newer inventory is clustering. If you’re choosing a neighborhood for a Munich stay and want walkable access to the Altstadt and the major sights, these new openings confirm that the city center is still where the investment is going, which is generally good news for families who don’t want to be reliant on a long transit ride back to the hotel every night.
Munich’s lodging options and how to pick the right neighborhood for your family are laid out in the full Munich guide, along with how a Munich stay fits against day trips to the Alps and Bavarian countryside. You can find it here: Munich With Kids.
