Barcelona is one of the most popular family destinations in Europe for good reason, and a little planning keeps it smooth.
For food, tapas are perfect for kids, small plates you can order a bunch of and share, so everyone finds something. Patatas bravas, fried potatoes with sauce, are a universal kid win. Pan con tomate, bread rubbed with tomato, and simple grilled things, plus jamon, keep it easy. And remember Spain eats late, so keep a stash of snacks and consider an early dinner at more tourist friendly spots if your kids cannot last until nine.
Getting around, the metro is cheap, fast, and easy, and gets you to the beach, the Gaudi sites, and the center without a car. Buy a multi trip ticket the family can share.
Two cautions. Pickpockets are a real thing in the tourist crush on Las Ramblas and the metro, so keep bags zipped and in front. And summer is hot and mobbed, so late spring and early fall are the sweet spots with kids.
Give Barcelona three days. It has enough to fill them and the beach means nobody burns out.
