Phuket is a big island with a lot of beaches, and picking the right one is the whole trip with kids.
Skip loud Patong and base on the calmer west coast. Kata and Kata Noi are the family favorites, soft sand, gentle water and a low key strip of restaurants. Karon and Kamala are quieter still, and the north end around Bang Tao has the bigger resorts with lagoon pools and kids’ clubs.
Watch the sea conditions wherever you land. The west coast surf can pick up, and a red flag means stay out, so pick a gentle bay for little ones and keep an eye on the flags. Base at one good beach and you barely need to move.
