Phuket has a party reputation, and that is one loud corner of one beach. The rest is a big, easy island of calm sandy bays, warm clear water, family resorts and some of the most beautiful boat trips in the world.
It is one of the simplest tropical trips you can do with kids. Gentle west coast beaches, a giant golden Buddha on a hill, a colourful old town of Chinese Portuguese shophouses, and longtail boats out to limestone islands that rise straight out of the sea.
Base at a calm west coast beach like Kata, settle in, do a boat day and a culture morning, and let the rest be sand and sea. Fly down after busy Bangkok and let everyone decompress.
