Finally Showed Up (Adam). So Did Poppy.

Let’s start with my proudest moment so far. The dog.

This was Poppy’s first experience flying and she absolutely crushed it. 3 planes, zero complaints…1 small #2 in the airport in Amsterdam (they asked for it, not having a pup place)…and just like that she’s in the car, in her carseat, locked in and completely at home in Norway. Favorite child, no contest...no suprise.

The rest of us arrived slightly less gracefully. Five people, one dog, and what I can only describe as an optimistic amount of bags. All of it somehow making it into our (new to us)Skoda Superb.

Quick note on the Skoda by the way. It’s a manual. I am not. There’s a whole blog coming on that one because honestly the car has been a story in itself so far. What it means practically though is that Nicole is our pilot on this adventure which honestly tracks. She’s been navigating us since Costa Rica in 2007 so this is just her in her natural habitat with a gear stick.

The drive from the airport was eventful in the quietest way possible. Nicole made the call to stop every 30 minutes or so and none of us argued. The kids were gone within the first 20 minutes. I held on slightly longer. Poppy didn’t even flinch. Completely at home in a way that made the rest of us look a little pathetic.

Three weeks in and I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. The moment where the novelty wears off and the reality of living out of bags in a foreign country starts to grind. It hasn’t happened. If anything it keeps going the other way.

Everything still feels relaxed. Calm. Oddly natural for all of us. Everyone’s adapting so well to each new moment, place, smell, taste and sound and I genuinely didn’t see that coming.

till the next…Kaja 🙂
