Ho Chi Minh City, Saigon to most people, is a wall of energy, millions of motorbikes, street food on every corner, and a warmth that wraps right around a family.
It is intense at first, and once you find the rhythm it is one of the most fun, affordable cities in Asia for kids. You get grand French colonial buildings, a covered market full of color, some of the best and cheapest food on earth, and a river out to the green maze of the Mekong Delta.
You do not drive here, the traffic is a river of scooters. Get around by cheap Grab cars and bikes, base downtown near the market with a pool, and cross the streets slowly and steadily, holding hands. The kids will feel like they conquered something.
