After a day or two in the buzz of Saigon, the Mekong Delta is the calm, gorgeous day everyone remembers.
A couple of hours south, the city gives way to a green maze of rivers and canals where life happens on the water. Take a boat through the narrow channels under the palms, visit a floating market and a coconut candy workshop, and let the kids ride a sampan poled by a woman in a conical hat.
It is the other side of the south, gentle and slow after the motorbikes, and it shows kids a completely different Vietnam. Go with a small group tour and a private car, and be back in the city for dinner.
