Atlantis With Kids: The Water Park, the Aquarium and the Day Pass Question

Atlantis is a resort on Paradise Island off Nassau with a water park, an aquarium of fifty thousand animals, a river ride, a dolphin lagoon and a casino, and for a lot of American families it is the first foreign trip because it is a short flight from Florida and it has everything.

The water park is the reason. The Leap of Faith slide drops sixty feet through a clear tube inside a shark tank, the Mayan temple has five slides, the Current is a mile of lazy river with rapids and waves, and there are splash zones for the little ones. Kids over four have a full day. Teenagers have three.

The aquarium runs under the hotel in tunnels and lagoons, sharks, rays, sawfish, a giant grouper, and it is included for guests and free to walk through at any hour. The Dig is the part with the ruins of Atlantis built into the tanks and the kids will believe it.

Stay or day pass

Stay if the budget allows. The Coral and the Reef are the family towers, the Royal is the one in the photos, the Cove is adults. Room rates are high, and the resort fee and the food add up, but the park is included and the kids can go back to the room at two and to the slides at five.

A day pass is sold when the resort is not full, from a hotel on Cabbage Beach next door or from a cruise ship, and it is the cheaper way to do one day. Book it early, it sells out in school holidays.

Three nights at Atlantis is the right length. One day at the park, one on the beach and the aquarium, one for the dolphins or a boat to the pigs. Then a quiet island, or home, because Atlantis is a lot and the kids will sleep on the plane.
