When Will the Cherry Blossoms Bloom in Japan in 2027?

Last spring Tokyo’s cherry blossoms opened on March 19, 2026 and hit full bloom on March 28, with Kyoto about four days behind. The 2027 forecast isn’t out yet, so if you’re planning now I’d aim for the last week of March into the first week of April.

The first official forecast for 2026 came out on December 19, 2025. Expect the 2027 one around the same time, and it gets updated as spring gets closer.

Full bloom lasts about a week.

Rain or a windy day can cut that short.

Japan’s school year ends in late March, so you’re sharing the parks with Japanese families on spring break. Ueno Park on a Saturday afternoon is a lot. Go early in the morning with kids and you get the trees without the crush.

Hotels are the part to sort now. Kyoto for that last week of March fills up first.

If your dates land late, go north. Sendai was in bloom around April 4 last year and Sapporo around April 24.

This is the kind of timing I sort out for families all the time. Build the trip so it works with or without perfect blossoms, and the blossoms become the bonus.
