A 10 Day Korea Itinerary With Kids
For 10 days in South Korea with kids, I’d do 4 nights in Seoul, 1 night in Gyeongju and 4 nights in Busan. The KTX fast train takes about 2.5 hours from Seoul to Busan, and Gyeongju is a stop on the way. Fly home from Busan, or take the train back to Seoul for your flight, so you only change hotels twice.
I lived in Korea twice. Gwangju first, then Busan.
When I took Jake back with my best friend Jenifer and her daughter Harper, we walked home at midnight without a worry, ate Korean BBQ every night for about ten dollars each, and sang at a norebong until we couldn’t breathe from laughing.
This is the route I’d hand a family going for the first time.
Day by day
The 10 days
- 1Day 1, Seoul
Land and keep it easy
Check in, find dinner close to the hotel, and get everyone outside before bed. Jet lag runs the first night.
- 2Day 2, Seoul
A palace morning
Start at a palace before it gets busy, then walk the hanok streets. If anyone wants the hanbok photo, this is the day.
- 3Day 3, Seoul
Markets and food
Food is half of this trip. Street snacks, kimbap, fried chicken. Here’s how we eat Seoul with kids.
- 4Day 4, Seoul
The kids’ day
Let them pick. K-pop, an indoor theme park, or a lazy morning and a big afternoon. My palaces and K-pop day is a good template.
- 5Day 5, to Gyeongju
The KTX south
Gyeongju was the capital of the Silla kingdom for about a thousand years. The grassy royal tombs sit right in town, and kids can’t believe they’re tombs.
- 6Day 6, to Busan
One more Gyeongju morning
See the pond and pavilions, then ride on to Busan in the afternoon.
- 7Day 7, Busan
Beach day
Haeundae for the sand and the skyline. Nothing else planned.
- 8Day 8, Busan
Color and fish
The painted houses of Gamcheon in the morning, the fish market in the afternoon.
- 9Day 9, Busan
The temple on the rocks
Haedong Yonggungsa sits right on the ocean. Then Korean BBQ for the last night.
- 10Day 10
Fly home
From Busan if the flights work, or take the KTX back to Seoul in the morning.
The stops
Why Gyeongju and Busan

Gyeongju’s royal tombs
I taught social studies for eight years. This is the stop where kids see history instead of reading it.

Gyeongju’s pavilions
Gyeongju sits on the KTX line between Seoul and Busan, so it costs you almost nothing to stop.

Busan
A big city on the sea. Beaches, temples, markets, and four nights so nobody’s rushing.
Where to sleep
Rooms for a family of 4 or 5
| Stop | What I’d book |
|---|---|
| Seoul, 4 nights | Two rooms side by side or a serviced apartment near a subway stop |
| Gyeongju, 1 night | A hanok stay with an ondol room, bedding on a heated floor |
| Busan, 4 nights | An apartment or family room near Haeundae |
Most hotel rooms in Korea are built for two. Book early and ask for rooms next to each other.
Make it yours
Easy swaps
- Love beaches and volcanoes? Trade two Busan nights for Jeju, a short flight away
- Little ones? Skip Gyeongju and do 5 nights in Seoul and 4 in Busan
- Rainy day? Seoul has big indoor options, so save the palace for a dry morning
- Adding Japan? Seoul is about a two hour flight from Tokyo
- Going in 2027? Check the K-ETA rules first. US citizens are exempt through December 31, 2026

Start planningQuick answers
How many days do you need in Korea with kids?
10 days is a good first trip. 4 nights in Seoul, 1 in Gyeongju and 4 in Busan, with only two hotel changes.
How long is the train from Seoul to Busan?
About 2.5 hours on the KTX fast train. Gyeongju is a stop on the way.
Is Gyeongju worth it with kids?
For one night, yes. It was the Silla capital for about a thousand years, and the royal tombs and pavilions are right in town.
Should we do Busan or Jeju with kids?
Busan is easier because the KTX goes there. Jeju is a short flight and better for volcanoes and nature. With 10 days, pick one.
Can we fly home from Busan?
If the flights work for your city, yes, and it saves a day of backtracking. Otherwise take the KTX back to Seoul.
Where should a family of 5 stay in Korea?
Two rooms side by side, a serviced apartment, or an ondol room with bedding on a heated floor. Standard hotel rooms are built for two.
Do US citizens need a K-ETA for Korea?
Not through December 31, 2026. Check the official K-ETA site before you book a 2027 trip.
